Interesting Phrase

Interesting Phrase

I come upon this interesting phrase from an email sent from my friend....

"If you look at what you do not have in life, you don't have anything"
"If you look at what you have in life, you have everything"

One needs to look beyond the phrase to understand what it means...
of course, it differs from individuals....
So what do i see from the phrase... ... is Human Nature, Satisfaction, Contentment, Fulfilment
How do I say so???

Human Nature :
It is human nature to compare, to improve, to achieve... It can be obviously seen from the revolution of men through generations, through decade and centuries. We, human have sought to continuously improve our lives. It is through us humans that we have come to what and who we are today. Who would have think that we could close up communication by the use of internet? Who would have think we could close up distance of vast lands with the use of airplanes and trains? These are not even existence many centuries ago when human do not even know whether the earth is flat or round. It is down to humans that seek to "have" what they "do not have" that leads to this simple reasoning. Definitely, this is something positive to take in....

Satisfaction / Contentment :
From the phrase, it said that one will have everything if he looks to what he has with him. This states how much human is contented with himself, with what he has, with what he has achieve. Of course, the negetive to contentment is greed, which is also very much a part of human nature.

It is exactly that humans sought to always improve in themselves that there are many examples in which greed take hold of their minds. One very classic examples is definitely have to be Hitler who aims of achieving more lands under his hold. He is obviously not one that is easily contented. Or else, he would have thought on how to improve on his own country and not to conquer neighbouring lands.

Then again, too much of a contentment is also not healthy. If all human race are so contented in their lives that they dont aim for higher heights, then i dont think we will have what we have today. Who knows, we might be doing hunting of animals, or farming at our back of our small hut...

Fulfilment :
Ultimately, what i see is how one person deem himself that his life has been fully fulfilled. As time goes by, thinking of the human mind differs from one generation to another. At this era, many seek to achieve life fulfillment, in order that they have lived a worthwhile. But how many are able to say 100% that they are able to... i doubt so... Even i myself, have been continuously been asking myself this...

Definitely, this word fulfillment have a close relation with the phrase. How it relates to a person and how he interpret the phrase, i guess this word fulfilment has a strong impact on it.

So what's yours interpretation? a piece of crap sentence or something that alightens you?

Army Half Marathon

Army Half Marathon

The annual Army Half Marathon was again to be held today. This time the journey includes run along orchard road, chinatown and the usual Benjamin Shears Bridge. As this is one of the major event for all army personnels, preparation for the event started as early as the week itself.

Though i was supposed to clear leave, CSM had told me earlier that i had to be back to help out. So it was, I reported to Selatar Camp as instructed. From there, we started out overnight "mission". My company was selected to be road marshallers for the event. As a bonus for it, we need not participate, and need not train for it... hehe.. but in the end, it was just as tiring as running the 21 km route itself.

I and Aaron were made to do medical coverage during the night when the men had to moved the barricades around for road blockages. i was to follow CSM. We had to moved from location to location to ensure everything was smooth going. All i did really through the night was just to wait, wait, and wait... I didnt get to sleep at all until around 4 plus in the morning when CSM found a spot to rest....
But it was just not to be, the short time of rest was very much disturbed by mosquitoes. My face and upper limbs were bitten, disrupting any sort of proper rest at all. At 630am, i was awaken by the noises created outside the road. The event had long been started. Those competitive runners had already almost completed the whole route. I was at the 18km point.

I got up, and went to catch a glimpse of the runners.... Managed to saw some of my unit guys, even BMT and medic friends.... Looking them run made me have a sudden rush of running the route too. Im probably one of the few who have not participate in the running of AHM at all during my NSF life. Last year, was because of Lancer project, while this year is marshalling.

It did not ended there and then, as we had to keep back the stores that had been only been placed a few hours before. Work continued all the way through afternoon. Shackness is apparently on all faces. No one was let off for this event. Many had lasted the long night, preparing vigoursly for the event. At the end of it, some of them still have to go down the complete more of the clearing tomorrow... haiz... this is really army man...

With such little rest, i think i will most probably go to rest after this post... bleh"

Business

Business

This word, business is well known by all... But to different individuals, it has different meanings. This has been existent ever since the early age, when people began to trade their products with each other. Just like everything else which has revolutionise, this is no exception too.

In this era, business can be done in many different ways, be it small or big, be it physical or online, be it legal or illegal, it definitely has different impact on the human race.

When this topic of setting up a business comes up in a discussion, various views will be heard of. Some will brighten up, showing much excitement and enthusiasm. Some will simply hate to even think about the idea of setting one.

Since young, this keeps coming onto me.. How to do a business? How to start? What to prepare?
etc etc... Up till now, i have very vague idea on how is it really like doing a proper business...i have a plan since my O-Levels on my learning on the basics of business, but what i think i lack of is the practically part. Really do hope i could find a definite path of my own....

3rd Day at Changi Airport

3rd Day at Changi Airport

Today last day of my temp assignment at Changi Airport. As usual, I reach the station on time, taking over the morning shift girl. From the comment she told me, she said that some of them had an impression on me that i very pia working on this....

what happen is I made known to the agent that im able to work on afternoon and night shift on the 3 day assignments. How did i know the agent gave me 2 shifts for the 3 days. Slowly, my shift work were made known to some of them, making them thought that i very pia... haha...
Some of them were like complaining a lot already with only one shift, so they were really curious how i managed to stand for that long.

In the end, the work today was cut short in the end. The servicing of the skytrain was completed earlier than expected. So they stopped our work. I was informed by the agent halfway through my break time that i could actually go back. It came at a good time for me, as my legs was struggling already after so much of standing these few days. So i managed to leave for home early. But before i left, i sneaked in back to the transit area, to get a belt that i fancied since yesterday.. keke...

Work at Changi Airport...

Work at Changi Airport

I managed to get this temp job the other time through an agency. This is supposed to be a guide for tourists and passerby to inform that the sky train has been closed for a couple of days and to guide them towards the shuttle bus service.

Till now, i have finished 2 of the 3 days work assignment. I would say its been quite an experience though its wasnt very much an interesting job to be at. I was doing 2 shifts for the three consecutive days.. clocking 11 hours of work each day. I had to be stationed at 2 different points. One is at the skytrain area at terminal 2, while the other is inside the transit area. During break time, personnels had to change location to take over each other's location to allow the other party to go for break.

Many changes happened along the way as some of us had to adapt and change according to suit the circumstances we were in.

Overall, work is very routine as we speak almost the same speech to every one of the people that has passed by. Still, there were some funny incidents where we had a good laugh. Incidents where there were kids playing around the area, tourists trying to ignore our signs and explaination, some interesting families.

Tomorrow is the last day of the assignment. Hope its goes more smoothly for most of us.

Community Work at Kent Ridge Park

Community Work at Kent Ridge Park

This was one of the so called part time job i found during my clearing leave period... I managed to get to know this girl, called Brighton <---interesting name through WLNU... so from there, she was asking if I could do this community work.. It is about a morning event in which several GRC will be there for a morning walk. So the event company had to organise the route and other matters regarding the whole event.

I was fine with that so i agreed.... I had to attend to 2 site inspection, to get to know of the location and duties. In the end, I was assigned by the manager, Sam to do road marshalling.

The entrance to the bus park is a long winding road that has a few bends. The construction of the road made it impossible for two opposing bus to pass through, so there was a need for the marshalling. Since I and another guy, Kenneth were there for the inspection, he was only confident that we are good enough for the job.

The day started very early as i got up around 5am. Didnt get much sleep as i only got back home only 5 hours earlier. Upon reaching the site, we got prepared of our equipment like walkie-talkie, marshalling vest etc... During the wait, Sam made a final briefing to the rest on how they should perform later on when their individual groups have reached.

From my observations so far, Sam is definitely quite a character. To describe him, he is serious, yet funny, wordy yet poor in english, someone who demands quite a bit on the ppl under him especially Brighton. As what he likes to say, "its better to be more kiasu than to be complacent for the event." Think i heard him say that a couple of times.. haha

Well, the first bus got there pretty early, and work had to start. I and Kenneth had to then coordinate with each other such that the traffic flow from the entrance to the bus park is smooth and safe for all. I would say that we did a pretty good job. It was smooth and no major cock ups.Not bad for a first time road marshalling. There were quite a number groups that came. Once all have started their walk , it was rest time for me and Kenneth. We were basically left alone at our stations.

Work only restarted once the first group have finished their walk back to the bus park. That's where some confusion came in. Cases like bus driver do not know which GRC they are picking up, the chairman of the group missing, the groups do not know what are the license plate of their bus etc. Because the bus park can only accomodate 4 units at a time, i had to ensure that before the buses are being sent up, the groups are back. So i had to run along from group to group to communicate with the respective coordinators and leader of the GRC. Despite some minor hiccups, I and Kenneth still managed to get our jobs done.

One interesting incident was that a auntie was left out by her bus. The leader of her group apparently did not carry out a proper head count. Brighton had to then fetch her out to the nearby Mrt for her to travel back home.

After the debrief, we were allowed to be dismissed.

This activity is a monthly event, and said by Sam, he hopes to have a group of regular coordinator helping him out. Im still thinking it through whether can i committed to this. Ultimately, i Hope to fo into events work after I ORD, so i will see if there's any vacancy available in that company before making other plans ba...

Shopping witth Terence and Jin jie

Shopping witth Terence and Jin jie

Today morning got a msg from Terence in msn asking me whether want to go shopping or not... I see that i have nothing much to do anyway, so i thought ok lor... just tag along ... he and jin jie wanted to get some shoes apparently for some ceremony that all freshmen have to go on saturday...

I got to meet him first at Tampines. Jin jie was late. So we head towards City hall first... Terence managed to get a Levi's t-shirt before Jin jie reached... Poor Jin jie, he was injured during his 3 day camp... walking around limping... It was indeed swollen.. guess he would have to go "tui na" soon to get the circulation going....

We walked from city link to suntec to marina... before taking a break for our dinner at Marina Square food court.... a needed break for Jin jie also la.... i had to help him get dinner too lor... so as to save him from moving around that much...We slowly took our time there as even eating, we just sat there to chit chat... they were basically telling me about the games that they played during the camp... which sounds pretty cool and fun...

After that, we took a short trip to Orchard to have a look around there... In the end, both of them managed to get each a Guess belt, which cost 70+ bucks... WOW!!! By then, time was pretty late, as we hurried back to City Link to get their shoes. There, Aaron managed to contact us to arranged for a simple meeting at Tampines after that.... So we headed back to the east after all the walking and shopping.

At Cafe cartel, Tampines, as usual, we just sat and talk and eat our usual Viking on the Rock, a 10-scoop ice-cream combo.... Didnt stayed long though... I managed to catch the last bus back to bedok in the end....heez....

Postphoned Job Assignment

Postphoned Job Assignment

Haiz... was supposed to work at Changi Airport these few days from 15/08-17/08. The job assignment was to be as guide for tourists at the 2 terminals at changi airport. We were told that during those days, the sky train will be down due to upgrading. We even had to go through a briefing on 14/08 Monday, so that we would be aware of our roles at the different stations that we were being assigned of.

As I was able to do 2 shifts, from noon to night, I was assigned to 2 different stations. For one of the station, I was even appointed as the IC of the team. They are mainly students that are of a few years younger than me... make me sound like i very old hor... so naturally i was appointed.
For one of the station, I had to even enter inside the gates where the holding transit area are. Cool man!!! get to be able to see all the different tourists that comes to Singapore. The whole briefing tour took around 2 hours as we were brought around from station to station, and from terminal to terminal. At the end of it, all was figured out as most of the others head off straight after the briefing. For me, i was one of the last ones to leave.

I had to take lunch first. So as in the past, i head to the staff canteen to have my meal. To my surprise, the canteen was refurbished just as the whole changi airport. Had a simple meal and off headed home as my head gets onto me again... my headache havent been improving that day.

At home, i took ponston that i got from one of my reporting sick and slept through the whole afternoon.. oh ya, not forgettng that just before i head to bed, i had to receive a call from Khym that the job assignment has been postphoned. It was a gentle surprise, given my physical condition. So i took it to my stride and accept for the sudden change. It was only today that i received call from Khym that it has indeed postphoned to next week, from 22/08-24/08.... lucky it does not disrupt any of my plans or clearing of leave. So i just agreed onto it.

come to think of it, after the few days rest, i was getting a bit more better, but soon more bored at home. I saw the chance that i could go to grandma's house for a few days just as i promised her that i would make time for it. So here i am today at her house. Im intending to stay for a couple of days. So as of now, i will only start some work this saturday morning as Brighton called to tell me to go down to the park again for another site inspection.

Tengfu's birthday dinner

Tengfu's birthday dinner

Hmmm... been sometime since i wrote something here...

Tonight was supposed to meet the guys out for Tengfu's birthday dinner. I nearly could not make it man... Was down for lathergy and headache this few days, and even had a sight fever the day before. So i had to drink and take whatever medicine that could help me recover faster. I was pretty anxious as i have some part time jobs coming up the next few days, so i could not afford to be sick at this point of time.

Luckily, i managed to recover better from it and make it for the dinner. heez... i also nearly forgot to bring out his present lor.... kena some words from mum too.. for being forgetful...

Jin jie and Tengfu was late... while Terence got to Suntec straight... so I meet Aaron at City Hall first... Aaron was still commenting that the t-shirt that I and Terence chose were too big for Tengfu... but in the end, it was still fine for him.. luckily...heez....

We dine at a Indonesian Restaurant called the Rice Table. Waited for Jin jie for quite some time as he was the latest to reach. Throughout the meal, we talked, laughed about several topics including activities we did in the past in the secondary school days... we also noticed a cute, little waitress...haha... just that we didnt did anything silly of course...

It was supposed to be a ala carte buffet, but i somehow didnt felt that it was worthwhile as we didnt eat much at the end... and the cost was pretty steep for it...Up next, we head towards Chijmes to catch the Community Shield between Liverpool and Chelsea... Terence and Jin jie headed without us cos they still have a 3 day camp starting the next day so they could not stay for it....

Aaron then suggested to a restaurant that he claims that SMU students have discount... so fine.. we headed there.... He managed to catch with a friend who was working there.... I remembered her name as Rebecca... She was also part of Aaron's club too, but claiming that drinks did not have discounts...I remembered the part where Aaron saw her... He was like so kan jiong, asking her whether have discounts or not the first words he saw her...haha... i had a good laugh at that...

The match was pretty evenly matched, though i feel Liverpool generally controlled the game as a whole.... Final score was 2-1 to Liverpool... Yes, a good start to the campaign.... Unbelievably, tengfu was struggling to keep himself to keep himself awake for the whole 2nd half... think it was partly him waking up early in the day and the Henikken that he drank along with....

Well, match over, we took the cab home after that...

ROAD TRIP!!!

ROAD TRIP!!!

Day 1-Aug 1st

It was decided a few weeks ago that we were to go on a road trip. Tengfu managed to get the proceedings done. For me, i had to go down to camp to settle my excuse letter thingy.
I managed to leave camp at 12 and began my way towards Jurong POint.

THere, Tengfu and jj drove the car all the way to Boon Lay to pick me up. After which, We went for lunch at Balestier.
There were indeed many different interesting incidents that we had across the two days of driving around Singapore. We went to different places, some the first time.

-from Boon Lay to Balestier, JJ took the wheel. This was one of the earliest "holland" that we did. We entered Toa Payoh exit at PIE, only to find ourselves not knowing how to go Balestier from there... After much, map finding and figuring, we managed to have our lunch, Chicken Rice at one the well-known store in Singapore, Li Ji Chicken Rice.
o
-The next destination was Botanical Garden which i was the one to take over. It was a nervous so to say as it was a very long time ago since i drove a manual car. At the garden, we spent some time roaming around the area. I managed to take some pictures of the scenery, and turtles there...hehez....

-Next, was Labrador Park. I was still on the wheel. the journey was definitely most terrible. I had a bus driver scolded me of which i do not know the reason, a near-miss accident and to have "holland" terribly.

For dinner, we initially wanted to go to Tiong Bahru to have Bak Kut Tea. However, wrong directions infamiliarity of road made Tengfu missed a turn and in the end, we changed the venue to Maxwell Market. there, we saw Gueneviere, who look much more mature these days. At that venue, its where i help Tengfu to do a paralle parking. There was also a shophouse near our parking car where there are people shooting some tv scenes.

We were supposed to pick up Aaron after that at Tampines. He was teaching tuition at that area. There was some spare time, so we decided to go to Tampines first, drive around and maybe practise some parking. So we went to tengfu's neighbourhood there. We hop to his house for a short moment to use the toilet...hehe.... A few words by his mother was that we must drive carefully. Hearing that remains me of my mum saying the exact words too... Typical advice from our mums...Soon later, we were at a vacant parking space. Tengfu and Jin jie took turns to learn some parking. By 9pm, we went to pick up Aaron.

Meeting Aaron, he mentioned whether we can pick up his gf at Hougang to drive her home at Kovan. So off we go to Hougang.... On the way, we decided that we let Aaron drive later upon picking up his gf.. which is more rightful... But that guy gave us a scare or two.... Hougang Mall to Her home wasnt that far... At one turn, he make a sharp turn of some kind.. all i know was that i was "Woooh!!!! Oh my God..." at that moment...He wasnt that steady at all lor... Finally after dropping her off, i took over...

Then we decided to go towards Yishun Dam.... It was along the way from Jalan Kayu to Yishun... so we had to pass by Selatar Camp... The road was pretty secluded... dark, narrow road... After some figuring out by Jin jie... managed to get to the right track and reached to the Dam...Its was a place that supposed to have people hanging aroung the straight road.... Cars parked along the road... some just out to relax... Accordingly to Jin jie, on occasions... there might have some road race of some kind.. but too bad there's wasnt any that night... So we got off and just sat by the side, chatting a little... Our stay was pretty disrupted by a guy whose van was equiped with heavily with speakers... There, he let out music.. so loud that it can be heard even a few hundred metres away... Frustrated by the noise.. we took off to the next and last distination for the day... Jalan Kayu..

Jin jie then took over... and off we went to Jalan Jayu to eat some prata... Again, the journey could not be that fine... cos Jin jie missed the expressway entrance, all thanks to Aaron's misguidance... hehe... so Jin jie took an alternative route.... and i nearly gave his a wrong instruction too along... this is just a typical thing that we all have made this 2 days...Anyway, we had a quick bite and that was all for the first day... It was then decided that i will keep the car for night.. so we took turn to drive to our individual homes..

Day 2- Aug 2nd

Morning was early as i woke up ard 815am...i was supposed to pick them up at 9plus... So off i go to pick jin jie, then i dropped by Dengwei's place to get the ndp tickets that i was supposed to help him sell. After i got tengfu in the car, i made my way to the Supreme Court. We planned to listen a hearing of a murder case... Pretty exciting and strange cos it was my first time hearing a court trial....Again, it took some figuring out to find a suitable parking space... The hearing was halfway through when we entered quietly... I was the first to enter.. and i didnt make a compulsory bow that all was supposed to make... Tengfu was next and he follow suit too... i didnt know whether Jin Jie did bow.. But we just got a place to sit.... In fact, we were the only public personnel to be present... kinda awakard... Overall, it was kinda boring, but a nice experience... We were a little amused by the way how the judge made the prosecutor and defendent look like naive kids... he was making some comments of them of their insufficient ability present ... and that they should be more focus in their line of research and work....By 1130, we went out... look around the building up to the top where there was a view of the whole boat quay.... a great sight indeed...

For lunch, Jinjie arranged to meet his ex colleages at chinatown... So we were seperated for a while...After lunch, Jinjie took the wheel and head to SMU where he had to attend a briefing... After which , i and Tengfu had the car all for ourselves for a couple of hours.... hehe.... but then news came to Tengfu that his friend had admitted to NUH... and for me, i had to meet my fren, Felix to hand in the NDP tickets... So what happen is that we head to the west first, deciding to NTU to look around... NTU was really a campus, totally different from SMU... But luckily i didnt even consider going to this insitution.. cos the place is really damn far lor...

Since we were around the area, i showed him the way to Lim chu kang area...yes...ard my camp area... pass the cemetery, my camp, fibua, and lim chu kang 1 and 2... Up next, is east bound...

At tampines, i manged to transact with Felix and got the money transfered to Dengwei...Next i took over.. there's was some time so i suggested going to East Coast Park...

At that area, a sudden idea some upon me when i see the car parks very empty... so i entered one of it.. where i started to just did some moves, some turning, playing a fool.. really had fun man... Tengfu also had his turn... and again more parking lesson...

After which, i told him to go around Fort Road... i wanted to show him a few private apartments around that area...The property that i show him really was amazing.. it was totally out of this world... one of it was a property that is as big as a whole condomium estate... It had a hugh patch of grass in front of the area with "ping ma yongs" planted all around... Tengfu was like "omg!!!" Really amazing.... then the next property needed some searching around... finally, when i found it, another "wow!!!" was heard from tengfu... He was also same speechless as me after looking at the "palace".. The place was really like a palace that we normally thought that we would only see in shows at home... The owners had a couple of cars.. From Merc, to BMW, to Rolls Royce, Lambogini, to Farrari... It had pillars that are alike those of the Supreme court... had a fountain that is very very grand.... One could never get bored looking at it...

Time was near to picking up Jinjie, so i took over to head back to SMU... There, we realised we were a little bit early. .. so we two just walked around the basement....

Up next, we head to NUH where Tengfu had to go visit his friend... reaching there, we had some delay as he had to meet his friends.... Once seperated, Jinjie then drove around NUS...We did dropped down NUS business school and walked around the campus and Tengfu's accomodation area a bit... There i see another university campus of SIngapore and really can see the major difference between the three...Our wait was pretty long... and we grew a little bored.. so Jin jie suggested to head to Holland Road... just to drive around... So after browsing the map for direction , Jin jie head towards it... Was quite smooth finding it... then we just head back to NUH.. just in time to pick up Tengfu... Time was pretty late... ard 9pm when tengfu joined us back...

Next was back to Tampiness to meet Aaron... He had his tuition again for the second consecutive day... Picking him up.. we head to Simpang Bedok to have Roti John for dinner...

It was initally decided that we go to cocolatte, where i was invited by Fish... So we drove Tengfu back home first as he had some activities the next day.... Dropping off Tengfu, last minute changes such that we give it a miss of cocolatte.. and instead head to Rochor Road to have beancurd....

It was a quick snack and then we head back home after that... I got home first... Then off the other two back to their homes too....

Overall, it was kinda relax, and hectic road trip.. with some disruption, changes along the way...but no regrets to it... have a lot of manual driving and managed to kick off my little fear of slopes...Thumbs up to the whole trip....
