On thursday, I had a mid term test on a module. It was not super difficult, but most of us had difficulty interpreting her question and the lack of time. Though i managed to complete it, I did it in a rush and i had to assume some of the information that the paper was asking.
Anyway, the main highlight was after the test, we had the same lesson the next morning. So between one night of time, a few of her students actually emailed her, complaining that it was difficult, that they are depressed over it...
After which, she actually took the effort to email all of us (3 classes) that she didn't in any way want to make it a difficult paper and tried to encourage all of us. In class, she raised the issue again and from her expression, it seems that she is much worried than some of us (like me) about the matter. I guess she is the first prof i have seen so far who is concerned about her students' feelings. Cute sia... but yet a bit redundant.
She did reflect and say that maybe its the singapore "kiasu" culture that caused such reactions from some of them... which i totally agree... Reflecting on myself, i did not even sweat a lot prior to the test, i prepared my notes as normal and just try to keep myself as calm as possible. Its a module where if u know, u know.. not something that can memorise or prepare overnight. Im even surprised by myself on how im treating towards test. It is a lot more calmer and i guess i can lessen my stress a bit too.
anyway, she off to London for her own Phd exams for the next 2 weeks. So good luck to her!
